How does Korean think the smell of Roquefort Cheese?

Roquefort Cheese from wikipedia.org

I met my best friend last Thursday. He works for a french company in Korea. He told me very interesting story about 'Roquefort Cheese'.

Few years ago, he went to France for a business trip. He visited a restaurant with his french colleagues. 'Roquefort Cheese' was served for appetizer there.

He said to me he could not forget its smell. When it served he was sure that it was totally rotten. None the less his french colleagues ate it deliciously. He tried to eat. However, he could not to eat at all. Finally, he politely asked the restaurant waiter to change it. Then my friend felt very sorry to his french colleagues. Thankfully, the waiter said he understood my friend and if he were my friend he would not be able to eat the cheese either.

This is difference of food culture. 'Korean Kimchi' has strong smell. But most of Korean people, including myself, are used to the smell. Therefore, it does not bother us. We also have 'Hongeo hoe(Sliced Raw Skate)' and 'Cheonggukjang(fast-fermented bean paste)'. They have very strong smell in comparison with 'Roquefort Cheese'. I am sure that it will be extremely challenging eating them.

My friend's french colleagues have eaten the cheese since they were born. So, they like to eat it. The smell is nothing to them. I think they may love the smell.

I like to experience various cultures. Someday I want to try eat 'Roquefort Cheese'. ;)
